Volunteers Needed!
HELP INDEX 1940 CENSUS AT HOME: Last December, three of the powerhouse genealogy organizations, FamilySearch International, Archives.com and findmypast.com, announced that they have joined together to form the U.S. Census Community Project. The goal of this project is to engage online volunteers to create a high quality searchable name index to the 1940 U.S. Census--after it is released in April, 2012.
These organizations were chosen to host the 1940 census by the National Archives, and their completed index, along with the census images, will be available free online to the world of genealogy researchers. Many national and state societies have joined in financial and volunteer support of this effort.
To learn more about the 1940 U.S. Census Community Project go online to:

INDEX CCGS QUARTERLIES AT ARCHIVES: We have two computers set up in the back storeroom of the archives for volunteers to use. One of the computers has the most beautiful location of any computer space in the library as it faces right out a window so the scenery is always different. There are icons on the computers that lead you to the Excel file for indexing. There will be a stack of paper copies of all the Quarterly issues, and each volunteer will begin where the last volunteer finished. Only pages with page numbers will be indexed for every name listed on them (not the cover or publication pages). We will have a set of instructions and because we have no volunteers working yet there is no need to worry about scheduling a time. When you are in the archives, just look back there and see if anyone is already typing and, if not, you are free to take whatever time you can give to this worthwhile project.
Our new website has a members-only wall and the Quarterlies are behind there so only members can view them. When we have an every-name index completed it will go on the free public portion of the website. We hope to encourage new members to join CCGS in order to see our members-only resources.
INDEX CHANCERY COURT CASES AT ARCHIVES: Once the Polaris catalog system is installed and all the archives records are indexed in that new system (likely fall of 2012) there will be need of volunteers willing to index the newest Chancery Court cases for every-name. Please keep this one in mind as a possible fall and winter volunteer opportunity. Further information will be added as available.
